&WoodWorks' goal is to change the way customers shop for both custom-made and ready-made furniture with a one-stop furniture platform for them to design, uvisualize in 3D/AR, and order with real-time pricing that caters to all budgets.)
“The future of furniture”
Overview
&WoodWorks founder wanted a site that provides a one-stop online furniture shop originated from a human-centered design concept. Its mission is to bring life improvement to customers – from the furniture buying experience to using the product itself. It aims at providing an online furniture solution to address existing difficulties encountered by customers shopping for furniture. Adhering to the ‘you-get-what-you-see’ principle, we aim to assist customers in finding furniture that best suits to their needs and preferences, thereby creating an ideal living space.
My Role
As the sole designer, I led the project from research and wireframing to prototyping and final design. I worked alongside with the founder as well as the engineering team to design this e-commerce site from 0 to 1.
Users
Individuals and families living in Hong Kong, where living space is limited, often find that ready-made furnitures does not suit their needs.

"With limited space to build, Hong Kong has gained a reputation for having some of the smallest and most expensive apartments anywhere in the world." - Bloomberg

Through interviews with potential users, we found that furniture buyers prioritized style (Does it match my home interior design?), cost (Can I afford it?) and size (Does it fit my space?) when considering what pieces of furniture to buy. This highlighted the importance of custom design, real-time pricing and the ability to visualize design in 3D/AR.
In addition, we realized that users spend the most time designing the product (rather than browsing different styles) and that most users cannot make a decision immediately. Therefore, we recognized the need to provide a way for users to save their configurations for a later, ensuring their time and effort aren't wasted.
Overall, our goal was to provide a platform where users can be the creator of their own furnitures.
Primary Navigation (below left image)
The goal is to reduce the number of clicks required for consumers to reach their desired page. From the homepage, users are directed to the category page by the 1st click and then to the desire product page on 2nd click.

Category Page (below middle image)
I added product filtering to help users find their favorite furniture pieces while also being introduced to new ones.
Once the users found the ideal furniture, they can then configures the different aspects of the furniture from the Furniture Design Platform

Inspirational Page (below right image)
The inspiration page is to serve as a source of ideas and motivation to encourage users to be creative as well as providing a starting point for those who don't already know the furniture style they want to go for.

 Increasing customer engagement by 182%
The Furniture Design Platform
From our research, this is the page where users spend the most time. User can design his/her furniture by providing the desire measurement, materials, and configurations, etc.
User would follow a 7-step process to configure the product. At the end of the process, user can visualize his/her final product in 3D/AR.
The goal of this page is to ensure each step is clearly expressed. Since our research also show that price is important to the shopper,  we also display real-time pricing based on the size, materials and configurations that were chosen along the steps throughout the process.
The outcome was remarkable; we observed a 182% increase in customer engagement on this page.
Logo
When brainstorming the logo for &WoodWorks, I aimed to keep it simple while incorporating an element that represents the core material of the furnitures offered - wood-based pieces.
Ultimately, I incorporated a horizontal line resembling of a piece of log or wood (the image on the left below shows version 1 of the &WoodWorks logo I created). When I moved on to creating a favicon, I wanted to incorporate either a square or rectangle, because it is a resemble of the shape of a cabinet or dresser (below middle image is the final logo design, and below right image is the final favicon design). After a few more revision, I want to make the logo and favicon to be more cohesive, that's how the final &WoodWorks logo is created (below middle image is the final copy of the logo).
